What are Web Feeds?

Written by Deepak Shrivastava on November 13, 2008 – 5:46 am

Web feeds are special files, which can be read by almost any computer, and are often used to transfer and deliver important information, news updates, and more. These items can be received by any of several applications known as readers or aggregators. Once the information has been received, an aggregation will display the feed in a more easily readable and “user friendly” format.

Internet users can subscribe to web feeds and get automatic updates, made to the web feed, as soon as they are published. Users can many times view these updates online, in the case of news updates, or you can download the information to your computer, as would be the case if you had a subscription to a podcast or vidcasts.

The process is known as syndication and users can access all the information from one place on a home computer, rather than have to access dozens of websites to skim materials; many times the feeds will contain short summaries of the articles and information available, and to finish reading the content you will have to click through to the website. With web feeds users can now receive any kind of content including news headlines, blog posts, lists, podcasts, and vidcasts (video podcasts).

Three Simple Seo Tips

Written by Deepak Shrivastava on November 11, 2008 – 6:23 pm

Update your site with regular content updates…
Why not ad a blog to your site? The search engines go nuts for websites that regularly update their content. Make that new content keyword rich and the search engines will really eat it up. Regular tweaking and tracking of results is the key, otherwise you’ll never know what works for your site.

Use targeted Keywords and keyword phrases…
There’s a big difference between keywords that will drive traffic to your page but not convert into sales and keywords and keyword phrases that are laser targeted for what you have to offer – meaning MORE SALES!!! This is where a little extra work can make all the difference. The new Google Adword keyword search tool is a fantastic way to research your keyword phrases. It has recently been updated to show actual search numbers for particular keywords and phrases so you have an excellent idea of what your prospects are using to search for you.

Pack your Pay Per Click and SEO campaigns with the same keywords…
If you use the same keywords in your PPC ads and on the capture page of your site, you let your prospects know they’re in the right place. Different keywords in your ads and on your capture page can lead to a disconnect with your potential customers. We want to instantly connect with a prospect and using this technique works wonders. Don’t believe me? Give it a try. You’ll be very pleasantly surprised.

Google Spam Filters

Written by Deepak Shrivastava on November 6, 2008 – 11:35 am

Google, the Search Engine King, gave more emphasis to keep their search results as clean as possible.

Google search engine ranking algorithm has a variety of spam filters in their ranking algorithm that try to remove low quality web sites.

If your web site gets caught by one of these filters, it will be very difficult to get high Google Rankings.

Google Spam Filters are :

1. Google’s Sandbox Filter
2.
Google’s Trust Rank Filter
3. Google’s Domain Age Filter

All the three Google filters take into account the age of a web site. Google Sandbox Filter, implemented by google is a filter that prevents New Web sites from getting high rankings for competitive search terms. This filter is called Google’s Sandbox.

Google’s TrustRank filter is an important filter. Web sites with a high TrustRank get high rankings on Google. The TrustRank of a web site is determined by the age of a web site, the quality of inbound links and the contents of a web site.

The Domain Age filter is another filter that considers the age of your web site. Web sites with old domain names are more likely to get high rankings for competitive keywords on Google.

Make Your Website User Friendly

Written by Deepak Shrivastava on October 17, 2008 – 5:22 pm

Here are three simple tip to make your website user-friendly

1. Navigation:- The navigation on your site is probably its most important element. If visitors find your site confusing or cannot successfully navigate through it, they will leave. Make your navigation bar as simple as possible. One of the worst mistakes is using an expanding navigation bar that makes the visitor scroll over it in order for the menu to reveal their options. Most often, this type of navigation bar has too many choices; your visitor doesn’t know where to go, so they get flustered and leave.

2. Page Load Speed:- It’s hard to believe that some people are still stuck using dial up. Even if you have entered the world of high-speed Internet, no matter what you do, some websites will load slowly. (If you’re frustrated using high-speed Internet, imagine the frustration of those on good ‘ol dial up!)

Page load speed is VERY important. I know that when I am surfing the Internet and I stumble upon a site that loads slowly, I get annoyed, frustrated, and don’t browse the site for very long. If your website is loading slowly, you are probably losing out on valuable customers, no matter what business you are in.

3. Information:- The number one thing that visitors look for is information. They are coming to your site to be educated about your products and/or services and, most of all, how THEY can benefit. With this in mind, it is critical for the information on your website to be accurate, complete and up-to-date. Visitors will leave your site in a split second if the information you are providing is old news.

Traffic Tactics For Your Blog

Written by Deepak Shrivastava on October 7, 2008 – 4:29 pm

Use the right software - Selecting the right software for blogging can go a great way in making you stand out among the crowd. Custom blog software would be very useful, since users can customize it themselves.

Blog hosting - Always host your blog on your own domain. If you place your blog on another domain, it may not be able to attract public attention, build confidence, and improve rating in search results. So using a different domain is the biggest mistake one can ever make.

Title tag - Whenever you put a title tag, make sure that it is relevant to the subject matter, and is not just a random one. You put a title to attract your visitors, so ensure that it is short, and snappy.

Article marketing - Notwithstanding which area of article marketing for your blog you have ventured into, there are many public forums for that topic, which you must actively participate in. There are quite a few online communities, where you can post messages or initiate a discussion to increase your visibility, and attract a huge community of people to your website.

Tagging - Tagging is very important. You can visit Technorati for this purpose. If you have many tags on your page, then it will show in the search results.

Technorati-
Testing Technorati is extremely important. You must notify Technorati whenever you have made a comment on a blog. For this purpose, you will need to ping Technorati, or else, you may take the help of Ping-o-matic, which automatically alerts Technorati whenever a comment is posted by you.

Boosting blogs Visibility -
To increase your and your blogs visibility, it has become clear that commenting on other peoples blog is extremely important. But a primary concern is that you must comment on a subject which you are comfortable with. You need to search to get across a proper blog where your comment will be appreciated.

Yahoo! Search Technology

Written by Deepak Shrivastava on September 26, 2008 – 7:24 am

Me.dium: Social Networking- Me.dium is a social browsing software company offering a browser extension that allows people to surf with friends for the first time. By revealing this new Social Exploration Environment TM (SEE), Me.dium graphically connects users with their friends and others enabling users to interact online, similarly to how one interacts with people in the real world.

Yahoo Search

Hakia: Semantics Search Engine- Hakia is a general purpose “semantic” search engine, dedicated to quality search experience hakia is focused on bringing quality results via its semantic search technology. Today’s search engines bring popular results via statistical ranking methods. Popular results are not always quality results, and the searchers suffer in many ways ranging from wasted search time to using misleading information.

Cluuz, a next-generation search engine prototype- The difference between standard search engines and Cluuz is in the fact that Cluuz does some work for you. A standard search engine shows links in a list. Cluuz instead peers into the searched web pages, extracts important terms and images, clusters them and gives them in chart format (semantic graph) and in a tag cloud where you can click on any entity to further focus your search:

Pay Per Click Marketing

Written by Deepak Shrivastava on September 10, 2008 – 4:53 am

All that happens here is an advert (some text with a url link), often in blocks of two or more, is placed on various other websites that are popular and receive large numbers of visitors. If someone likes your ad text they will click on your link and be redirected to your site and provide they stay for more than ten seconds, you will pay the hosting site some money as thanks.

Now, the advert you have inserted on another site is directly related to the product or services the hosting site offers otherwise the advert would be wasted. This is a cost effective method because you only pay for the advertising you use so if no-one is redirected to your site, nothing is owed.

Rather than paying for a month’s worth of advertisements that might bring you no clients, here, you will only pay when people notice the advertisement and then go on to your site. While you may be worried that your competitors might click your ads to drive up your revenues, this is simply not worth their time and does not happen very often.

Pay per click is one of the most targeted types of marketing available which means it is extremely cost effective for businesses that often lose a great deal advertising to those with no interest in their product. Your ad will only show up on sites where people are already interested in something related to what you are offering.

Important notes about htaccess redirection

Written by Deepak Shrivastava on August 27, 2008 – 12:06 pm

1. Always be sure to upload .htaccess files in ascii mode, sending it up as binary will break it (and usually          make your server very, very unhappy.)

2. .htaccess does not work if you’re on a windows server.

3. Make sure you triple check your changes. Clear your cache and look, test the server headers to make sure      you see a 301 (that means its permanent) not a 302 (temporary) unless you are absolutely sure you really     mean temporary.

4. Since some operating systems don’t allow you to make a file without something before the “.” you may        need to save it as something.htaccess, some may even have to save it as htaccess.txt and change it once       you’ve uploaded it.

5. Make sure your ftp program will show .htaccess files (FileZilla does and is free) It is a bit hard to edit             something you can’t see ;)

6. Double check that you’re not overwriting an old one (some servers already place one there for your custom 404 pages etc.)

7. Make sure you replace example.com with your own sites URL ;-)

Success Tips For Every Website Owner

Written by Deepak Shrivastava on August 22, 2008 – 7:07 am

Well, if you are a webmaster, read on. Here are some success tips that can help your site climb its way to the top:

1. Keep your website attractive and navigation- friendly. Your visitors are the foremost judges of your creation. Some areas of the website might not be convenient for them and they may not be satisfied with a mediocre appearance or site presentation. Be open to change, and respect comments. It would also be nice if you would open contact lines for suggestions inside the site.

2. Update your content regularly. Sometimes you just run out of ideas or simply got too busy with other things. The tendencies are that a visitor check on your site today, and he doesn’t see anything new. Will he come back again? Hardly. So always make sure that you keep them coming back for more.

3. Market your site. In terms of Internet Marketing, you can either do the manual marketing through contacting dozens of websites and exchange links with them, or you can also hire someone to do that for you. Today, there are various Internet Marketing experts whose specialty is to drive traffic to your site. If you have products or services to offer, this can be a good investment for you.
